We just announced the results of the 20th Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge and it’s created a huge buzz! Lots of excitement and celebrations 🙂
In fact, entries open for the NEXT Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge on Friday the 18th of May with the first Heat kicking off on the 28th of May.
In preparation for the challenge, Elan and I put together a series of videos discussing some common mistakes that challengers make and what the more successful challenges do differently.
1) Commitment VS Motivation
This is a pretty important topic because motivation is just an emotion. It comes and goes…
Only going to the gym or eating well when you feel motivated is like only going to work when you feel happy or only picking up your kids from school when you feel relaxed.
Not a winning strategy, right?
Watch this video from Elan and I on how you can achieve an incredibly powerful mindset shift that helps set you up for success in the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge, even on your worst days.
2) Outcome VS Behaviour Goals
You can set as many goals as you want… You can even make them S.M.A.R.T goals.
BUT, if you don’t directly link them to the actions and behaviours that you NEED to take every day / week / month in order to achieve your goals, then you are going to have a difficult time actually following through.
With a small tweak to how you set your goals, you will be able to answer “yes” or “no” to the question “Did my actions today / this week / this month move me closer towards where I want to be in 8 weeks time?”
This is the kind of accountability that will set you apart from the rest in the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge.
3) Progress VS Perfection
When you get a flat tyre on your car while driving, do you get out and go slash your other 3 perfectly fine tyres too?
No… probably not! But why do people do this with their health and fitness?
What would happen if we took this analogy for getting a flat tyre and applied it to how we approach health and fitness?
Get out the spare tyre or call for help so that you can keep on going! Things don’t always need to go perfectly in order for you to achieve progress in the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge.
4) Measuring Success
We often get so very focused on a specific measurement of success (such as weight loss or muscle gain) that we sometimes miss all of the other great things that are going on too.
That’s why we want to highlight some of the other important measurements of success to keep an eye on so that you can use those successes as fuel for your motivation for the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge.
This is a POWERFUL lesson!
5) How to Prepare For Your Challenge
One of the most common mistakes that we see people doing right before the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge is deciding to “save” their progress for the challenge period.
Meaning, they deliberately try not to make any progress in the week or two leading up to the challenge. They ease up on how often they gym and how well they eat. In fact, many even go on a flat out binge the weekend before their challenge starts to bulk up a bit for the before photos and to enjoy some of the foods they won’t be eating again for the next two months.
The problem with this is your body doesn’t just reset at 7am on Monday morning and you wake up in challenge mode. What you eat and what you do has long-lasting effects on your body.
If you’re smart, you will use the pre-challenge time to perfect your routine and build up some momentum rather than slowing yourself down.

6) Find Your Reason Why With The “5 Whys” Method
Everyone has different things that motivate them to enter the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge.
Perhaps you are feeling depressed and are motivated to change.
Or are feeling inspired and want to take action.
Or maybe you just want more energy or to look better on the beach.
These motivations tend to come and go depending on how you are feeling and what is influencing you.
However, if you dig deep down, you will find some key underlying “whys” that are steadfast and unchanging. The really deep and powerful reasons that you want to change.
Harness them, and you will be unstoppable!
