We sat down with Shizelle who placed first in the Women’s Transformation category of our Summer Challenge 2023. We wanted to find out the secret to her success and she was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I was lazy and unmotivated. I was eating poorly and not exercising regularly. I had bouts of trying to eat better or exercise more, but it was always short lived.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
My sister had previously done a challenge and she was about to start the summer challenge as a team leader. She was so amped, and I was at a tipping point. I realised it was the motivation I needed to get on track.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I didn’t add any carbs to my meals. I tried to stick to protein and veg. I cut out sugar and alcohol. Prepping my meals for the week was key.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I tried to exercise every day, with one rest day a week. I walked 3/4km in the mornings, jogged on the weekends and some evenings and went to gym 2/3 times a week.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Setting daily goals is easier to achieve than one big scary goal.
- Prep your meals for the week!
- Planning your morning workout the night before sets you up for success.
