We sat down with Mandisa who placed second in the Women’s Weight Loss category of our Summer Challenge 2023. We wanted to find out the secret to her success and she was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I always love to work out and walking but was just doing it for the fun. I never knew that exercise goes hand in hand with healthy eating. I always thought of being healthy as following diets and not realizing it should be a lifestyle.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
I got a big health scare when I just woke up one morning not feeling well. The doctor informed me my blood pressure was very high and I could have a stroke.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I cut out a lot of starchy food and sugary stuff. I had more vegetables and fruits in my meals. I made fibre and protein a big part of my meals.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I exercise with a group of ladies 3 times a week and try to walk at least 2 times a week. Weight training was also incorporated in our sessions.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Start by believing in yourself at all times.
- Remember it’s your own race that you are running! You vs You!!
- Be consistent at all times.

To find the best versions of yourself.
