We sat down with Johan who placed fourth in the Men’s Transformation category of our Summer Challenge 2023. We wanted to find out the secret to his success and he was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
Before this challenge I really had a difficult time staying focused and living the healthy life that I never knew I wanted. I was always tired and unmotivated, just going through the motions, work, eat, sleep.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
I realised that the only way that I would start feeling better about myself would be to find something to motivate me and push me to stick to training and eating routines, and no better thing than a competition!
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
It was quite easy really, I simply started to avoid food on the Sleekgeek red list and focused more on sticking to the green list. By also eating 3 meals a day and drinking a lot of water I started to feel more energetic, which motivated me even more to avoid the types of food and cold drinks I would usually overindulge in.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I signed up at the gym, and trained with weights at least 4 times a week, went for a timed run every Monday and Saturday and got more actively involved in races and events in my area.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Don’t be afraid to start small, any exercise is good exercise.
- Small changes in diets and habits render big results.
- Find something to work for other than the challenge, challenge yourself to be a better version of yourself.
Why should people enter the challenge?
You deserve to look your best and feel great about it! A little hard work now pays off in amazing ways. It’s not just a competition, it becomes a lifestyle.
