We sat down with Lungile who placed second in the Women’s Transformation category of our Winter’s 8-Week Challenge 2023. We wanted to find out the secret to her success and she was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I was trying to eat well, but didn’t have much motivation. I was also fasting but I wasn’t able to fast as much as I really needed to. I’ve been a yo-yo for over a decade. I keep trying different things which work only for a period.

Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I was following carnivore and intermittent fasting. My fasts ranged from 16 hours to about 5 days. I have had a fasting coach who taught me how to fast in a healthy way. I am still in touch with my fasting coach. I also follow Dr Fung’s teachings about fasting. I try my best to keep carbs at zero, though it’s not always possible.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
Training was not great at the beginning, however I joined Run/Walk for Life towards the end of the challenge and this has worked for me, as I’m now more consistent with walking.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
Find what works for you and stick with it. I’m not a morning person, so I’ll never join the 5 am club, but I know many people who have no issues waking up at 5am.
I read something that said, “Food is my fuel, not my comfort”. I felt that! For many years I’ve use food to comfort me.
Eat when you feel hungry, stop when you feel full. When you are full you are less likely to snack.
Keep carbs and sugar to a minimum. Healthy fats and protein help keep cravings away.
