We sat down with Gert who placed fifth in the Men’s Transformation category of our Winter’s 8-Week Challenge 2023. We wanted to find out the secret to his success and he was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I was maintaining my weight for the past 6-8 years. Always averaging at 92 kg, but I had quite a big knee surgery in 2022 and I started to burn less calories than I was used to. Being on crutches for about 6 months.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
My wife said that we needed to make a plan with our bodies before we are 40. The sooner you start to transform your lifestyle, the better the result will be.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
During the 8 weeks, I totally cut down on 3 main things:
Sugar
Dairy
Starch
I was not hungry during the day because of other good replacement foods, like vegetables and protein.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I am practicing karate twice a week for about 4 5min and trying to reach a weekly stepping goal of 70000 steps. (Min 10000 steps per day.)
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
Set realistic goals: 1 kg weight drop per week.
Focus on Nutrition and Portion Control: Healthier food choices.
Combine exercise with a healthy lifestyle: Start or get a hobby!
Why should people enter the challenge?
I think there were 2 reasons for me entering the challenge:
- It is a competition and motivation.
- I had a goal to work for.
