We sat down with Bronwyn who placed second in the Women’s Weight Loss category of our Winter’s 8-Week Challenge 2023. We wanted to find out the secret to her success and she was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I spent many years unhappy with my appearance as I was made to believe I was fat. Through some eating disorders I realised that food was not the enemy and started to actually pick up weight. This then eventually triggered yo-yo dieting for most of my adult life until I discovered Sleekgeek. Now I understand that balance and priorities is what really makes the difference.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
I have done many challenges before, but after a mental breakdown I picked up all the weight I had lost since my previous challenge. I was not ready to do a challenge for a year, and then the poor health decisions started making my life more difficult and uncomfortable, so I decided enough is enough, and I figured getting my heart rate up may just help my mental health as well.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I ate whole real foods, with as little processed foods and junk as possible. I tried to decrease portion sizes, replacing big meals with a smaller meal and adding a side green salad to help keep me full. I only ate when I was actually hungry and listened to my body when full.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I exercised at home using YouTube videos and went walking and hiking regularly. I also did ALOT of roadblocks as my strength portion of my training. I increased movement during the day instead of sitting for 8 hours.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
Move as much as you can, every little bit adds up.
Join a team, as they support you in the tough times.
Believe in yourself, as it is easier than you think it is to prioritise yourself.
Why should people enter the challenge?
You get the support you need to stay committed. There is a chance of winning some awesome prizes. It will change your life!!
