Clasina Wagener’s 30kg weight loss journey

In May 2021, I decided to make a few changes in my life. At that point I felt emotional, unhappy, unhealthy, very overweight and figured that only I can make a difference.  A friend told me about the Sleekgeek Winter Challenge.

I joined and started Monday 7th June 2021.  I thought for the first time in my life that so many diets, injections, pills, etc. have never worked, so why not try a completely new lifestyle and stick to it. Even if it takes me a few years to get to my goal weight! It took years to get where I was at the time.

At the same time, I went to see Wendy Christien at Integrated Health Solution in Durbanville to determine which foods are not accommodating to me. After a few tests, it seemed that I should ideally avoid dairy and wheat. 

I changed my lifestyle by starting to exercise again, joining in with the Roadblocks with a group on the Sleekgeek 8-week Winter Challenge. I cut out dairy, wheat and most refined/sugary food and beverages.  Best decision I have made!! It was 100% doable.

I have lost just over 30kg since June 2021 and decided to join the 8-week Winter Challenge again this year to try and finish what I have started. I have been very fortunate to join an amazing team again and am super amped to complete my journey and, to maintain thereafter.

I also invested in a personal trainer to guide me so that I don’t injure myself, and to keep getting stronger. Lauren Rix at Ipic Active in Durbanville is more than my trainer, she is like my therapist and a friend. We train hard but also have so much fun whilst doing it.

A few easy steps that I follow: 

• Eat and drink right 80% of the time (have the drink, snack, or cake but limit it to preferably once or twice a week).
• Use exercise to improve your overall well-being, don’t see it as a chore. Whether it is light to moderate, just taking the stairs as opposed to the lift, or heavy lifting. Exercise should be part of your daily routine and your happy-free drug!
• Drink your water. Whenever you are in the kitchen, drink a glass or always walk and drive with a bottle of water and take a few sips now and again.
• Combine an outing with a walk along the promenade, on the beach, in the mountain, or wherever you feel free! Have coffee or champagne afterwards.
• Never, ever, feel deprived. I see food as healthy medicine for my body, soul and mind. If you put in junk, something will suffer at some point in time.
• Don’t be too hard on yourself. If today was bad, try again tomorrow but equally, don’t wait too long to start.

It’s your body, your choice! I’ve turned 43 now in June and feeling better, stronger, and sexier than what I have felt at 21!
