We sat down with Johan who placed fifth in the Men’s Transformation category of our Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to his success and he was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I was trying to exercise every now and then and trying to eat right but I always ended up doing the opposite and then ended up feeling uncomfortable.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
When I saw the Sleekgeek post on Facebook, I wanted to do something about my body and health, but I didn’t have the motivation to do it on my own, the Sleekgeek challenge made me step up and go for it.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I usually had either hardboiled eggs with Avo and brown toast or Weetabix with cold milk for breakfast.
For lunch I usually had a healthy sandwich with tuna and mayonnaise or left overs from the previous night’s dinner. For dinner we buy meals from Dinner box which are healthy, especially if you take the low-calorie option, and that’s what we had for dinner every night. I just ate an apple or orange for snack-times and sometimes when I craved something sweet, I would have a piece of dark chocolate with my fruit to break the craving.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I tried to exercise, but I haven’t managed to do so because I was working long hours, but I do walk a lot at work and I’m quite active when I’m at work.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
Keep it simple, no need to follow a strict diet, just eat the right amounts, balance of foods and try to eat as many foods from the green list as possible. On a Friday treat yourself with something from the red list and don’t be too hard on yourself. Try to get up and walk as much as possible, go for 10 000 steps a day.
Why should people enter the challenge?
Because it helped us and it will help you too. It doesn’t just give you rules and guidelines, but they motivate you.
