We sat down with Yuveshen Subramoney who placed first in the men’s Weight loss category of our Summer 2022 Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to his success and he was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
The effects of lock-down together with an extremely unbalanced lifestyle had left me at my worst yet. By Mid 2022, I weighed just over 130 kgs. Man, it was a mission impossible to just walk up a single flight of stairs without being out of breath.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
This is probably my 5th attempt in trying to use the 8-week program. I believe that I was more determined, that I had to make a change and that had to come from myself holistically, whilst using the tools and group system from Sleekgeek to help push me forward.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
During the 8-week challenge I opted to do 2 things i.e., intermittent fasting (16-8) together with a banting diet. Meal prepping on a Sunday for 2-3 hours really helped in sticking to no takeout’s during the week, when life can sometimes test the best of us!
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
Based on my weight in the beginning I stuck to low intensity cardio, so walking for the most of it (Averaging around 30k steps per day during the challenge). As the kgs begin to drop I started jogging again & took a leap of faith by signing up for a 15km event, this adding more motivation to keep pushing forward.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Always strive for progress over perfection! The situation will never be perfect, something or another in life is always going to get in the way so, think about what you will be able to do on your absolute worst day & make that your plan!
- Control your circle or your circle will control you! Most friends/family may not be on the same journey that you are embarking on, so expect judgement, expect them to not understand why you don’t want another drink or to go to the pub this weekend & that’s perfectly okay as well. But it’s important that you learn to be a bit more selfish with your time, prioritising what is important to you & your goals.
- Let change be a constant! Find innovative way to keep things changing i.e., change up you walk/jog route, take different types of group classes at the gym, try a new recipe etc. The important thing is that your actions should transpire into a fun lifestyle that gels with the person you are to become.
Why should people enter the challenge?
I believe the challenge is suited towards anyone that is keen on improving their lifestyle in a positive way. Although the judging measurements are based on body change dynamics, I believe individuals benefit, not just in physical body changes, which is really awesome!
