Q&A: Wesley Payne – 5th Men’s Transformation

We sat down with Wesley Payne who placed fifth in the men’s Transformation category of our Summer 2022 Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to his success and he was happy to share it with us.

Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.

I have always been one for sports, going to the gym and challenging myself which means it comes naturally to me to stick to a workout regime. Where I struggle is with discipline in the kitchen when it comes to meals and snacks. I wanted to eat healthier to support the training I was doing.

What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?

I am very competitive and never one to say no to a challenge, so I liked the idea of using this as a motivational tool and to hold myself accountable. Sticking to the competition for eight weeks allowed me to form habits that I continue to practice going forward. Those habits would have been a lot harder to stick to without Sleekgeek.

Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.

High protein, lower carb diet. Cut out alcohol, processed foods and refined sugar. Made healthy snack substitutions like nuts, biltong, veggie sticks and hummus etc.

Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.

Strength Training x 4-6 times a week.
Cardio and HIIT x 2-3 times a week.
Pilates x 2 times a week.

If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?

  1. Set realistic daily, monthly and weekly goals.
  2. Do your research – healthy meals can be delicious and easily available.
  3. Failure is a part of life. If you eat ‘cheat’ food or skip workouts, forgive yourself, move on and keep going.

The workout and diet plans provided really will help you build your roadmap to success.
