We sat down with Veronica van den Heever who placed fifth in the ladies Weight loss category of our Summer 2022 Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to her success and she was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
A short history 😉 Before this challenge it was a continuation of the journey started in February 2021. During 2021 went from an absolute couch potato to someone who enjoys being active on a daily basis. Although I have lost a lot of weight during 2021, bad habits were creeping back in and I have gained some of the weight lost during 2021, all the new clothes in some instances were sitting to tight for my liking.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
On the one side, I wanted to gain back some of the discipline I had in 2021. On the other side, I’m paying it forward, as a team leader, motivating and encouraging others to achieve their goals.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
Nutrition, I tend to stick to unprocessed food 90% of the time and I do record everything I eat and drink, with a daily minimum and maximum allowable range.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
My absolute minimum is 10k steps daily. As I had a race at the end of the challenge, with my training friends our training was rather intense. Mondays HIIT with obstacles, Tuesdays a slow walk, Wednesdays calisthenics, Thursdays HIIT with obstacles, Fridays a slow walk, Saturdays Bootcamp with obstacles and Sundays a myrun or a short walk.
If I recall correctly, the week before race day we did a lot of stretching and foam rolling.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
Stay positive and focus on the green food list with the orange list items now and again.
Be consistent, by keeping to achievable minimum on a daily basis.
Why should people enter the challenge?
It changed my life…6 challenges later and I can’t go back to the old me.
It can change your life, while going at your own pace, achieving your goals one step at a time.
