We sat down with Theo Louw who placed fourth in the men’s Transformation category of our Summer 2022 Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to his success and he was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
This was my seventh or eighth challenge, so I’ve been at it for a while. In between challenges I stumble behind the wagon. However, I’ve learnt most of the habits to maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle, and I’m able to maintain it quite decently.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
My wife entered me for the first challenge. She felt I needed the motivation and accountability to push me to get fitter and healthier. At the time I was doing ok, but the challenge just added that extra ‘oomph’ and it changed my life.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I basically just eat clean and green as far as possible. I tried to reduce sugar and bad carbs as far as possible, but I don’t exclude anything. Portion control, intermittent fasting (to a lesser extent) and calorie deficit definitely helps.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I basically train 6 days a week. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday I’ll train with Adidas Runners Durban (running). Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I try to get a decent strength training session in at gym. Sundays is active rest with a trail run/walk with the family.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Join a team! The extra motivation and accountability is a great advantage.
- Find what works for you! What might work for me, won’t necessarily work for you!
- Don’t compare your results with other challengers. We are all on our own journey!
Why should people enter the challenge?
The challenge changed my life! I’ve made lifelong friends that became family. I’ve learned so many new things regarding healthy living and a fit lifestyle! I would definitely recommend it to everyone considering it!!
