We sat down with Irene Du Preez who placed first in the ladies Weight loss category of our Summer 2022 Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to her success and she was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
Lots of ups and downs. Would do well for a while and then fall off the wagon completely again.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
I joined the challenge because I wanted some accountability but also realised without a real deadline, I would be starting over every Monday again.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I do calorie counting and eat most foods, I try to eat food that is nutrient dense to be able to eat as many calories as possible while trying to get into shape so that it can be a lifestyle forever.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I train with EMS twice a week as I have a back problem and it is really helps to strengthen this. I do 10 000 steps everyday which includes a 5km walk.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Be in a team – it helps to be surrounded by people sharing the same goal.
- Don’t be too hard on yourself – only need 80% consistency.
- Move more everyday.
Why should people enter the challenge?
The challenge is great because there is a deadline insight. It helps to not put off and restart a 100 times. The vault is full of helpful tips on eating and exercising and the teams are a great way to meet new people.
