We sat down with Christiaan Du Plessis who placed second in the men’s Transformation category of our Summer 2022 Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to his success and he was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I consider myself a Sleekgeek veteran. I have done 1 challenge every year for the last 9 years. I tend to focus and train to the max during those 8 weeks. During the rest of the year I try to stay active and healthy, but it is a more balanced approach. This has kept me fit and healthy for 9 years now and I can honestly say I have not had to visit the doctor for any illness (touch wood) other than injuries and allergies 🙂 Before my Sleekgeek health transformation I was sick every year. So thanks for that Sleekgeek.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
As I mentioned, 9 years ago I started it because I needed to change my life. Drop my bad habits and start living a healthier life.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
Standard balanced diet, as provided by Craig Brown. Protein, Carbs, Fats, Veggies. I only supplemented fish oil, creatine, some protein powder and vitamin D3.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
5-6 Days a week. It varied. I had 1 or 2 cardio days and about 4 days of weights. The program rotated every now and then. I also started exercising a couple weeks before sleekgeek, to get into the routine and to get my body to adjust. Normally the first week you are in a lot of pain and it takes time to hit your full stride 🙂
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
Commit to the full 8 weeks. Finish it and then see how you feel. My first challenge I was very negative after about 4 weeks, didnt feel like anything was happening. After 8 weeks, when I saw my results I was hooked. I went from never being in the gym to exercising every week for the past 9 years.
Why should people enter the challenge?
It is hard to exercise without a goal. Sleekgeek gives you that goal.
