We sat down with Viv Blumears who placed first in the Men’s Weight Loss category of our Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to his success and he was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
My health has suffered over the past three years due to lock down, which has harmed my physical, mental, and emotional well-being. I was at my most heavy. My confidence was, needless to say, at an all-time low. I’ve picked up a lot of bad eating behaviours.
I tried a few diets (I hate this word), but it didn’t last for very long. I would fall back into my unhealthy, unfit, and lazy ways. I didn’t recognise the person I had become.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
Sleekgeek has been on my radar for the last couple of years, I’ve always enjoyed scrolling through the website reading other contestants testimonials and seeing their fitness progress.
I have reached an all time low just before the Winter Challenge, I knew I had to make some drastic changes to get back on track and doing it on my own didn’t get me anywhere.
I always read how amazing it was to have support from the sleekgeek community. That is what made me join.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
My nutrition was very simple and random, I did not have a daily plan nor did I prepare meals etc.
I had 3 small meals throughout the day, as clean as possible, good carbs, protein etc (within my calorie deficit) and basically cut out all sugars, fizzy drinks, and carbs.
Thats It!
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I achieved all of this by doing daily 1 hour workout videos I found on Youtube, I never entered a gym.
On weekends I would do park runs with my daughter.
Thats It!
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
The only advise I have is…
- Invest in yourself for only 8 weeks, it flies by.
- Join the challenge and see what happens if you do not give up.
Why should people enter the challenge?
To do this with a community which is on the same journey as you is everything.
I enjoyed it so much, I am super excited to start the next challenge…
Let’s goooooooo!
