We sat down with Monique Mathobie who placed first in the Women’s Transformation Category of our Winter 2002 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to her success and she was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I suffered for 5 years of my life with constant pain. I had stenosis of the spine. I at times could barely see to my own basic hygiene and needed help. This to me was the most humiliating thing I’ve ever had to go through. I had 2 microdiscectomies and 8 spinal blocks. When the Dr advised the 3rd op I was pissed as hell. I took my life back and lost weight. It was the best thing I could have done for myself.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
The support and motivation.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I followed the Sleekgeek green list. I only ate from that list.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
In the morning: light weights.
In the evening, spinning and during the day I dropped 10 of each roadblock. I kept my steps for the day over 8000.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
Be consist. Set realistic goals and make sure you are disciplined.
Why should people enter the challenge?
Use it as a tool to get you started on a healthier lifestyle so that it’s consistent and not just for the 8 weeks. They should enter for the support, motivation and great competition (for the competitive spirits this is definitely the place to be).
