We sat down with Conrad van Zyl who placed second in the Men’s Weight Loss category of our Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. We wanted to find out the secret to his success and he was happy to share it with us.
Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I have most likely lost and gained more than my entire body weight several times in my life. I will get to a point where enough is just enough and then struggle for months to lose the weight.
Overall, I would say that I am pretty active, and unhealthy eating habits cause weight gain. You know, that big chocolate slab after dinner.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
I reached that point where when you tie your shoes you can’t breathe and this needed to change, luckily my wife followed your challenges and signed us up to join the winter challenge
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
We used the SG nutrition plan as a guide and picked our meal plan from the green list. This gave me the feeling of a well-balanced meal. Usually, when I would like to lose weight I would cut out fats and eat more greens, but will always start to feel side effects, but not with the SG guidance.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I do not have access to a gym so most of the exercises are with body weight. Luckily SG has very nice exercise programs that we used that helped me advance my strength. I also jogged to get a bit of cardio. I can honestly say that I am much more comfortable in comparison to before I started the challenge.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be
Set a goal, get friends and family to join you in support, and be active.
Why should people enter the challenge?
When the challenge ended, I was happy with the result, it exceeded my expectation, however, I still have a little bit to go to a happy, healthy life. However, I have found it difficult to stay committed outside of the challenge. The challenge, the team, the information, the training program, and the goal, and specifically the deadline where all the differences come in.
