What next?
Even though Run for the Oceans has ‘run it’s course’ 🥁😜 we still have a responsibility to our oceans and enviroment to do as much as we can to end plastic waste.
Did you know?
- Each year at least 8 million tons of plastic enters the ocean.
- The equivalent of 1 garbage truck of plastic is dumped in our oceans every minute.
- Every day the equivalent of 1,440 dump trucks of plastic waste enters our oceans.
- For every person on the planet, there is the equivalent of 500kg of plastic.
- Nearly 700 species including whales, fish & seabirds have been found with plastic inside them.
What can you do?
- Avoid takeout and home delivery meals – these come with a lot of plastic.
- Ditch liquid body wash in bottles and go for soap bars with minimal packaging.
- Choose a natural plant fiber dish brush over a plastic sponge so you prevent microplastics from going down the drain.
- Invest in reusable produce and shopping bags. Take them with you when you leave the house.
- Eat locally sourced produce. Farmers markets are always a great weekend outing.
Remember small changes can make a huge impact! Let’s keep this momentum going 🏃🏾♀️
