How much weight have you lost on your journey so far? 

Lost 39kg

What do you do? [Job]

I’m a transport broker at Top Crop Carriers.

What else do you do? [Hobbies, non-work stuff, etc]

I love running! Everyday! We love doing outdoor stuff. 4x4ing or going for a drive with the bikes or boat.


How long have you been a member of Sleekgeek?

Since 6 June 2016.

How did you find Sleekgeek?

Can’t remember. Probably saw someone’s transformation and decided to join. 

What is your favourite part of the Sleekgeek Community?

How everyone becomes like a family. I immediately notice when certain people become more silent etc. 


Describe the “old you” before you made your transformation. How did you get there and what were you like?

Now, where do I even begin? It was terrible. I never wanted to do anything or go anywhere or take photos! So much time wasted! 

What ignited your initial motivation to change?

I got engaged on 25 September 2020. Never discussed a wedding date because I was always scared of not losing weight before the date of the wedding. 

On 4 April 2021, we decided it is time for an engagement shoot. I said I will only do it if I lose 30kg. I booked the shoot for 26 November 2021 and so everything started on 5 April 2021. I did lose the 30kg in time! And in December 2021 we decided we are getting married in April 2022. 

What are some of the things that the new you does differently now? 

Planning meals! Make time for jogging every day. Being consistent!

What are some of the things that the new you still struggles with? 

No struggles 😊

If you could give yourself 1 piece of advice to help with that struggle, what would it be?

Did you plateau, get stuck, or get disillusioned, or even slide backwards a bit on your journey?

Yes. Everyday! 

What is better since you got healthy? 

Everything! I feel amazing!!!!!!! I have lots of energy.


What’s your favourite form of exercise? [Running, yoga, weightlifting, etc]


How long have you been training and how did you get started?

I started on 29 May 2021. Did my first Parkrun in 49 minutes. Could only walk it. Now I run the whole 5km without stopping in 29mins. I also did my first trail run (12.5km) and could run the whole route without stopping once!!

What does your typical workout look like?

I only run. Don’t like workouts.

Favorite exercise? [Distance / pose / movement / etc]


How does exercise make you feel? 

I totally love the feeling when I’m done with my daily 5km. I can’t really describe that strong feeling. 

Do you prefer to train alone or with others? Why?

Alone. Definitely! I do not like to hear someone else’s breathing when I run. And usually, the other person wants to chat and I just cant! 

Most embarrassing training moment?

I have a few of that almost falling moments at Parkrun. 

Top 3 things you must have at the gym or in your gym bag?

I don’t have a gym bag.

Top 5 songs on your training playlist?

I don’t run with music.

How has exercise/training/Sport Changed your life? [Made it better, etc – please be specific]

It showed me how to push myself. I hated exercise!


What’s your favourite meal?

Braaivleis, Braaibroodjie, Aartappelslaai (had a braaibroodjie before my journey started the last time).

OK, now what’s your favourite healthy meal?

Ocean Baskets – Grilled Fish with salad and avo on the side.

Favourite carbohydrate?


What’s your nutrition philosophy / approach? [If you have one]

I combine banting /keto/intermittent fasting.

How many meals a day do you eat?

Only one actual meal. I do intermittent fasting so at 12h30 I eat Droëwors and at 18h30 I eat dinner and then I’m done.

Do you have a cheat meal / treat strategy?

No. I only cheated when we were on honeymoon in Mauritius.


Most memorable personal best achievement to date. Something you maybe never imagined you could do?

Fitting in my matric school dress again and it’s too big now.

Favorite quote?

Everything happens for a reason.

Favourite book? 

I don’t read.

What inspires and motivates you?

Mari Ludick. She lost 55kg. We had our sons on the same day in Upington in 2015. 

For what are you most grateful? 

For my support group.

What do you want to say to other community members who might be nervous or hesitant to make a start?

Just start. One day at a time. And keep on going! The results will blow your mind!

What are your top 5 tips for anyone starting on a healthy journey?

  1. make the decision and just start
  2. don’t listen to other people trying to demotivate you
  3. plan your meals
  4. set goals
  5. exercise
