If im not working I train and spend most of my time with my family.

YOU AND SLEEKGEEK

How long have you been a member of Sleekgeek?

5 to 6 years

How did you find Sleekgeek?

I was invited to join the community via a fb friend. At first I had no idea what it was until I started on my weightloss journey and then I became an active follower and member.

What is your favourite part of the Sleekgeek Community?

The support and members mostly the ones with an avid sense of humour.

YOUR TRANSFORMATION

Describe the “old you” before you made your transformation. How did you get there and what were you like?

Tired, miserable and unhappy oh and bloated and uncomfortable!!

I was never an overweight person till I fell pregnant and then my weight just skyrocketed from there!

What ignited your initial motivation to change?

Mostly being so unhappy and uncomfortable in my own skin!!! Feeling tired and depressed literally all the time, I was trapped inside my own mind and body!

What are some of the things that the new you does differently now?

EVERYTHING!! LITERALLY! From dressing to how I carry myself to living in general !

What are some of the things that the new you still struggles with?

Accepting that I am a much much smaller person it’s unbelievable  to fit into tiny clothing and to accept that this is now who I am! It’s hard to grasp !

If you could give yourself 1 piece of advice to help with that struggle, what would it be?

Believe in yourself first and foremost! Know that at the end of the day it’s all for you and that the results are indescribable.

Did you plateau, get stuck, or get disillusioned, or even slide backwards a bit on your journey?

It took me in total from start to finish about three years to loose all the weight of which I got stuck about 3 or 4 times … what I never did though was throw in the towel I pushed through despite the bad times!

What is better since you got healthy?

My health,  I can reach down to do things without feeling out of breath,  I can do most things for longer periods of time without needing to take a break. I sleep better and wake up feeling better too, my energy levels are through the roof most days and then there are things not appropriate to mention here….

TRAINING

What’s your favourite form of exercise? [Running, yoga, weightlifting, etc]

Mostly walking and cardio based exercise and at a stage I was gyming often especially first two years of my journey! Now it’s mostly walking and general activity!

How long have you been training and how did you get started?

A friend urged me to go to the gym with her. At first I was skeptical and once I went I loved it!!! It became an addiction!!!

What does your typical workout look like?

Mostly cardio and more cardio, if it’s weights its medium to light weights. I’m not a huge weight lifting girl.

Favorite exercise? [Distance / pose / movement / etc]

Squats, anything ab related, skipping, running and all cardio related exercises.

Least favorite exercise? [Distance / pose / movement / etc]

Burpees I could cry everytime! Really despise them! Lunges too!

How does exercise make you feel?

Euphoric,  revived on a natural high! And powerful!

Do you prefer to train alone or with others? Why?

I always trained with others and felt the attention was less on myself and it gave me the space to focus better !

Most embarrassing training moment?

Ay first not having a clue what anything was and when being told what to do standing there like an absolute mop trying to figure out what the heck what is ! There were just so many different reps of different things but I caught on quickly, anything with heavy weights was the worst!!!

Top 3 things you must have at the gym or in your gym bag?

  • Extra towels, fresh top, and just plenty of extra water!
  • Sanitizer after touching countless weights and then cream.
  • Ponytails and headbands too! Extra because for some reason they get lost….

Your next training goal?

To get my abs rock solid and to tone my thighs more.

Top 5 songs on your training playlist?

  • Nadia Ali – Triangle
  • Tyga – Taste
  • 4 strings – Diving
  • 2Pac ft. Ice Cube – Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It

How has exercise/training/Sport Changed your life? [Made it better, etc – please be specific]

My skin and overall complexion is more youthful and breakouts happen virtually never not even during certain periods of each month. My breathing is better. My anxiety has improved by leaps  and bounds and I stopped all antidepressants as well without feeling like it was a mistake.

NUTRITION

What’s your favourite meal?

Anything with Carbs (my downfall) I’m a pizza and burger girl and literally anything with sauce. My healthy go-to would be salads with plenty of healthy fats and proteins !!! All sorts of salads I could live off of them forever….

OK, now what’s your favourite healthy meal?

See above

Favourite protein

Red meat

Favourite fat?

Avo and cheese

Favourite carbohydrate?

Bread and pasta

How many meals a day do you eat?

Between 4 and 5 on a normal day on a bad day about 6.

Do you have a cheat meal / treat strategy?

About twice a week I allow myself the indulgence of whatever meal I’m craving.

Not the whole day, just that one meal.

MINDSET

Most memorable personal best achievement to date. Something you maybe never imagined you could do?

In regards to my journey. Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. Many days I reminded myself of this while holding the bag of chips or donut.

Favourite book?

None yet related to this industry.

What inspires and motivates you?

Myself, to be a better version of myself so i’m a better person to those that I love and care for.

For what are you most grateful for ?

The ability to live a much healthier and better life and mostly for having the most supporting partner ever!

What do you want to say to other community members who might be nervous or hesitant to make a start?

If you don’t start you will never know how far you can get, you will thank yourself down the line for pushing yourself and for never giving up !!! It’s not up to anyone else but yourself to change your own life and circumstances, nobody can do it for you neither can they change your mindset. People can only guide you, start where you are with what you have.

What are your top 5 tips for anyone starting on a healthy journey?

  • Focus, everything else that is not of importance is just background noise
  • Write down your goals and what you can do day by day to achieve them, then do something toward those goals every single day even on the bad days.
  • Don’t climb on the scale every single day weigh yourself once or twice a week max.
  • Remember that with exercise comes healthy eating or it won’t work !!! Don’t expect overnight miracles. You don’t pick up weight overnight it happens over time, same with loosing weight it’s a process, trust yourself and the journey!
  • I would recommend guidance at first when you start training until you know the ropes then continue on your own if you want to but understanding the proper way is so crucial to long-term success!
