💪 8-Week Body Transformation Challenge! 🥗

QA: Veronica van den Heever – 1st in Women’s Weight Loss

Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.

My health and fitness journey started with the 2021 New Years’ challenge. Obese and using chronic medication to manage hypertension, diabetes, and cholesterol levels. Throughout the year I made numerous changes in my lifestyle, that resulted in significant weight loss and overall improved health status, which resulted in a reduction in the chronic medication prescribed.

At the start of the Summer challenge, my overall health record was in relatively good shape, but I still haven’t achieved the ultimate goals set. The Summer Challenge was the next step in working towards those goals.

As off, last week, all chronic ailments are within normal levels, although genetics and other bad habits, have me on the lowest level for hypertension and cholesterol medication for the next six months.

What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?

My initial introduction to Sleekgeek was a birthday present entry (2021 New Years Challenge). Initially, I was very wary of the challenge and everything that goes with it. The team support structure got me off the couch and I started moving and focusing on my eating habits. My team members encouraged and supported me every step of the way.

Fast forward, to September 2021, as a habitual “YO-YO-dieter”, entered the 2021 Summer Challenge, as I did not want to go back to the old me. I got rid of all the “big clothes” and don’t want to buy bigger sizes again. I’m very flabby and this was an excellent opportunity to continue working on the loose skin a bit.

The team structure within the challenge motivates me to give my absolute best. I really enjoy supporting and motivating my fellow team members. I do a happy dance for every kilogram a team member loses. That also happens with other non-scale victories. I did a lot of happy dances throughout the challenge.

Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.

I do follow a moderate meal plan, as excluding certain food types from my diet does not work for me.
During the challenge, I’m extremely strict on the quantities and quality of the food I eat. Throughout the challenge, I tracked 99% of everything I placed in my mouth, through a food tracking application and kept the daily calories within a specific range that works for my body weight.

One thing that really works for me is to ensure the fridge and cupboards are stocked with mainly green list food items and pre-preparing some food items, that it is readily available when there is limited time available for cooking a healthy meal. It included cutting fruit and vegetables, making oats, boiling eggs, roasting chicken, etc.

Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.

Exercise and training are not my thing, and my mindset is not always there to help do it.
Throughout the challenge, I challenged myself at an absolute minimum to do at least 10 000 steps a day. I made time for daily walks ranging between 3 to10 kilometers.
Other exercises included participating in the team challenge roadblocks and trying some weight exercises. Going to the gym is not my thing. I need to be able to do it in the comfort of my own home when I have time available.

If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?

  1. Forget about yesterday, focus on today, as it is the decisions you make in the moment that counts.
  2. Nobody is perfect, do the best you can in your environment and circumstances, small victories over time adds up to big results.
  3. Focus on the things you enjoy doing and try new things now and again. Thus eat healthy food you enjoy and do exercise that puts a smile on your face. Nobody is the same, never compare yourself to others, rather let their progress inspire you.

Why should people enter the challenge?

Just DO it, it is only a 56-day journey.
If ONLY ONE journey mission becomes a habit throughout the challenge and continues afterward, you are a winner.
