Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
Being an endurance athlete but coming from a rugby and weightlifting background being in shape was not on my priority list. I just did the milage and eat anything not being aware of the wrong fueling I was doing post long sessions.
Drinking beer and eating is what I knew, but I just never progressed in performance. What the challenge taught me was to be conscious about how I fuel my engine so that the results will show.
For the first time I actually bought into the concept, that results starts in the kitchen and not only in the gym.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
I had no structure, the wheel came off from the hamster wheel. Work was getting too much and I became lazy with my training routine.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
It was hard at first but portion size was the main driver. That was the base and then also refulling with protein after a long straining session and also drip fueling while doing the long hours sessions.
Drip fueling is similar to hydrating however with drip fueling you basically fuel your body with Carbs and Proteins
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
The training program is determined the periodization period for the schedule. It could that I was expected to train twice day and on weekends were the long sessions ranging from 2hr – 4hrs. Intentional stretch sessions were introduced which doubled as a training session. Lost of strength training sessions were also included.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Purpose trumps motivation, only being motivated does not mean you will achieve your objective.
- Its ok to have an off/bad day but get over it and nobody cares if your a PLOM
- Don’t be afraid to bring out your dark side and train like a BEAST
Why should people enter the challenge?
We live a rushed society, always wording about the opinion of others. The challenge created a space were I could in away be selfish to focus on myself. It allowed be to love a scheduled and balance life, which for some reason created more me time.
I encourage everyone to participate in the challenge.
