Please give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
In December 2020 I was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome. I ended up in hospital and lost movement in my arms and legs. Recovery took 8 weeks and I had to learn to walk again. I was in bad shape with unhealthy habits. I needed to change my life by changing my lifestyle.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
Overweight and unhealthy habits that was taking over my life. My wife then introduced me to Sleekgeek and we entered the challenge together.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I opted for the Keto eating plan and cut out all carbs, sugar and alcohol. I used an app called FatSecret to record and track my progress.
2 to 3 liters of water daily.
Breakfast – Banana and Almond Butter Shake (With Pure Whey Protein)
Morning Snack (Opted for Apples as my Fruit Snack)
Lunch – Usualy Pastrami with Halve an Avo, Tomato, Sugar Snap Peas and Baby Cucumbers
Afternoon Snack – 30g Biltong
Dinner – Protein and Lots of Veggies (Fish, Steak, Chicken)
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
Trained for 5-6 days a week with one day rest. Either a 5km Run followed by 45 min weight training / 45 min weight and a-lot of skipping.
Did 50 between every exercise to keep my heart rate at 140-150bpm to optimise weight loss. On my rest day I also tried to go for a walk and push 10 000 steps for the day.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Keep enough healthy food around to avoid temptation. This helps with sticking to your diet.
- Stay positive – negativity is your biggest obstacle.
- Get enough sleep.
Why should people enter the challenge?
I used to be very bad with a diet. Usually failing within a week or 2. Entering this challenge motivates you to keep to your plan.
