QA: Tayla Harvey – 1st in Women’s Transformation

Today we chat to Tayla Harvey who placed 1st in the Women’s Transformation Category of our Winter 2021 Sleekgeek 8-Week Transformation Challenge.

Give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.

Being healthy and getting fit is something I’ve always aspired to be but never really manage to do. Being a medic and working long hours I’ve always chosen the easy nice fast food over packing a healthy lunch bag. I’ve tried many diets over years but always fallen off the wagon and gained all the weight back.

What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?

It popped up on my Facebook and I thought to myself that this was the time to commit to getting healthier. I had a good stern talking to myself haha and saw the great support system that Sleekgeek had and I knew I had to try it.

Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.

I started off on a very bland diet mainly of chicken and rice, wheatbix and protein shakes and as time passed by I started to add in “cheat meals” to try make it a lifestyle and not just another diet which has helped maintaining so much.

Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.

I did weight training for about a hour a day 5 days a week. I also tried to add in abit of cardio (a walk every now and then) and I did a few boxing classes.

If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?

  1. To find balance and to try make it a lifestyle change and not just a quick diet.
  2. 8 weeks is shorter then you think so when it feels too long just put your head down and keep going and before you know it you’ll be in the best shape of your life.
  3. Get involved and see all the great achievements the other challengers are making, it’s a great community that can really keep you motivated when you want to give up on the healthy life.
