Today we chat to Robert Hart who placed 1st in the Men’s Weight Loss Category of our Winter 2021 Sleekgeek 8-Week Transformation Challenge.
Give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
After lockdown, my exercise routine was interrupted, not being able to gym created a knock on effect on my eating, mental and physical health. Having to home school our two kids, work and being stuck at home had a tremendous effect on my physical health. In 2021, the world has begun to go back to some sort of normal, but I had developed a lot of bad eating habits, and still had not found a exercise routine that would stick.
The Sleekgeek challenge acted like a catalyst, getting me back on track and helping me kick start the good eating and habits that will keep me fit and healthy.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
I won a Sleekgeek Challenge a couple of years ago, but lockdown had a negative effect on the habits I had developed from then. I wanted to kick start a new routine and get myself into a head space and routine that would get me back on track, and kick start a healthier lifestyle again under this new way of living.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
My plan is something that worked for me, and was taylored to this particular challenge, but is not a sustainable one.
It was a protein (chicken) breakfast, protein (eggs) lunch and vegetable dinner. This was never deviated from, regardless of the day or the occasion, with one lunch being an exception.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
My exercise routine comprised of 9 exersices that started on 1 repetition and was ramped up to 5 repetitions by the 5th week. This was done every day without exception.
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Have a strategy, and adjust your strategy every 2-4 weeks if needed.
- Have a more sustainable plan in mind after the challenge.
- Finally, consistency, whether with cheat days or training days or eating plans, is something that will help you measure your strategy, and how you need to change it.
Why should people enter the challenge?
A habit is formed over 21 days, this will help motivate you to create a series of habits that will affect you mentally and physically long after the challenge is finished.
