QA: Jan Hendrik Boshoff – 1st in Men’s Transformation

Today we chat to Jan Hendrik Boshoff who placed 1st in the Men’s Transformation Category of our Winter 2021 Sleekgeek 8-Week Transformation Challenge.

Give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.

I used to be a very active person but then I started to work in countries like Nigeria, Tanzania, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, where the weather is not always the best but a cold beer is. It started to become a habit of getting home, switch on the AC and I will have a cold one or 3 while eating snacks. Fast forward 10 years and BOOM!! 102Kg’s with a beer belly like a true bar fly. Then I found out about Sleekgeek and the rest is history.

What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?

The challenge. I love a challenge and to amaze people with my perseverance when the going gets tough. Sleekgeek’s results speak for themselves and to get the results you have to put in the work which in return will prove your worth with results.

Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.

Calorie counting did it for me. Count what you eat, measure what you burn and set a target for each day. By monitoring what you eat you tend to eat more healthy. Eat bread, eat candy BUT count every calorie. Soon you realise how much wasted calories there are in the cheat food and that protein keeps the hunger at bay. Your mindset changes and you start searching for the most quantity of food for the fewest calories. My saviour was DILL PICKLES!!!! Best food ever!! Low calories and filling all the hunger spots.

Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.

Walking, cycling, swimming or elliptical trainer as often as you can BUT keep your heart rate in your fat-burning zone. It’s extremely important. Try and do it a minimum of 2 times a week for at least 2 hours in a total of a week.

If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?

  1. Count your calories
  2. Never eat after 7 pm
  3. Join a group and be active in your group

I know only 3 BUT also Monitor your heart rate during training.

Why should people enter the challenge? 

The motivation from fellow participants or competitors, you choose which one they are, adds motivation to make a success of the challenge. Team members carry you through a hard time and celebrate your small victories on your way to the final day.
