Today we chat to Natalie Rabie who placed 5th in the Women’s Transformation Category of our New Year 2021 Sleekgeek 8-Week Transformation Challenge.
Give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
Before the challenge my life was LAZY! I’m generally a healthy eater, I love my fruits and vegetables. But it was the lack of movement that was, quite literally, weighing me down.
I was getting fat, depressed and I could feel my mental and physical health deteriorating. Some days I just felt grey.
We are not a sports orientated family, so this meant I specifically had to make the effort to move. This was a challenge to myself on its own, the first steps were difficult.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?
I think at one point I got changed and glanced at myself in the mirror and wondered where it all went. I’m pretty sure most people know that moment.
I didn’t have a plan. I had no direction (besides the route to the gym). I read an advert on Facebook about the Summer 2020 challenge starting and some blood vessel popped in my brain cause I signed up on the spot.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
This was my first challenge and I pretty much took advice from everyone! I absorbed all the advice on Sleekgeek, my team, friends, family, gym buddies, Youtube and Facebook had to offer!
I was walking into this completely blind! I knew nothing about calories, portion size and all the tips and tricks for healthy clean eating. As I neared to the end of the challenge, I took a sliver of everyone’s advice and merged it into my own plan that suited my lifestyle and likes. This has worked so well for me.
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
YOH! This was the bite on the bottom for me! The moving! I pushed myself so hard!! I never had a “plan” to begin with. My plan was to get moving. Find out where my fitness weaknesses were and work on them. Early mornings, late nights at the gym, fun runs, walks with my family. The push was real!! But the motivation was there! I worked out, I even got to the point where I was running in the mornings (SHOCKING! For me).
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
- Remember why you started. Your body is the greatest instrument you will ever own. Be good to yourself.
- Keep it simple. Follow your gut instinct. All these fancy eating plans and machines might not work for you.
- Embrace this journey. You didn’t get overweight overnight and you won’t become slimmer overnight either.
Why should people enter the challenge?
Doing this alone is boring. Let’s be honest, doing it alone opens a door to easily give up.
With this challenge you are held accountable. There are people who have your back. Pushing you.
I needed the push. I needed the motivators to tell me to get up and get my a$$ moving.
It’s fun, you meet people from all walks of life. It inspires, it educates. It made me realize that I am worth the effort. I hope more people could feel that way.
