QA: Ethial Coetzee – 1st in Men’s Transformation

Today we chat to Ethial Coetzee who placed 1st in the Men’s Transformation Category of our New Year 2021 Sleekgeek 8-Week Transformation Challenge.

Give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.

I was not very active before the challenge. I got into a very comfortable ‘comfort zone’ not paying much attention to what I ate or what my workout regime was. I would play a bit of indoor soccer here and there, do some weights here and there, but nothing that would actually result in a change in my body. My eating habits was also not great I was eating what I felt like and when I felt like it. I paid no attention, untill I realised that I need to do something.

What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge?

The opportunity came when my aunt, Dee Coetzee, invited me to do the 2021 New Year Challenge with her.  I jumped at this opportunity as I was hoping that it would give me the boost I needed.

Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.

We started off by looking at my eating and fitness habits. I adopted the Banting eating lifestyle, which is HFLC (high fat low carbs). The Amazon team challenge helped a great deal in that I actually improved my running from 1 hr 23 being my first 10km to 58min being my last 10km by the end of the challenge. I also did lots of Cardio, skipping and HIIT workouts. Not forgetting the Roadblocks. Those all helped me in my transformation journey.

If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?

  1. Committ yourself fully for the 8 weeks
  2. Be consistent and disciplined
  3. Eat the elephant 1 bite at a time

Why should people enter the challenge?

If you really want to see a change in your body and mind, do this challenge. It’s amazing how consistent and disciplined you become, even after the challenge!!
