Give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.
I have always struggled to stay committed when attempting to start my journey. Losing weight was my biggest nemesis and because of all the false and unrealistic information out there, I could never stick to any plan I tried following. The goals I set were way too unrealistic and because I never had the patience and support I got to a point where I convinced myself that maybe I’m supposed to look like this. Weighing in at 120kg which was the heaviest I ever weighed, until one day I attended a fundraising 5km event and could not even do a 1 km. That’s when I realized I’m in need of a serious change or the worse was yet to come.
What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge?
After numerous fails and attempts, my wife introduced me to Sleekgeek as she was a member and knew I needed physical and mental support. She walked me through the group explaining how it works and the support the community gives as everyone has the same goal, which was health and fitness. After reading the motivational discussions from real people, I decided to give it a go and I have never looked back. This was the 3rd challenge entered. I also ran a team challenge in previous challenges which is the best motivation anyone could ask for. Since my first challenge, the weight has just been dropping which really motivates me to push every day.
Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.
I followed a low-calorie high protein eating plan, with the portion control guide obtained within the Sleekgeek vault. Big thank you to Eric Chowles for drawing up my macro information to follow as that really made me understand my protein, fat, and carb percentages required per day.
Main proteins – Lean mince, fish, eggs(mostly egg whites) and chicken
Vegetables – 90% of this was broccoli (as I love broccoli) and 10% mixed vegetables
Snacks – USN Ultralean Dietfuel (this kept me the fullest for longer)
Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.
I trained 7 days a week, it might sound unrealistic and stressful on the body but the plan I experimented with before the challenge started was very straight forward especially with my working hours. Most of my workouts only lasted 45 minutes max. I also entered every step challenge to keep moving as much as possible.
Monday – 15 minute bodyweight-30 minute HIIT treadmill
Tuesday – 30 minute HIT treadmill
Wednesday – 15 minute bodyweight-30 minute HIIT treadmill
Thursday – 30 minute HIT treadmill
Friday – 15 minute bodyweight-30 minute HIIT treadmill
Saturday – 30-45 minute steady state cardio (jogging treadmill)
Sunday – 30-45 minute steady state cardio (jogging treadmill)
If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?
You can’t out-train a bad diet. The saying abs are made in the kitchen is 100% true. What we put in our body is what we get out of our body. I personally believe in 90% nutrition and 10 % exercise. I don’t mean eating leaves all the time, you just need to find that balance that works for you.
Set realistic goals that do not feel like an obstacle. The biggest fall of many is rushing into something and not being able to make it a lifestyle. Staying fit and healthy is not a marathon, it’s a lifestyle that needs to come naturally and that’s the key to success.
The main piece of advice, remember we are all human and yes life always throws a curveball at which we strikeout. But always remember why you started in the first place and remember, every meter you move you overlapping the person on the couch. So just enjoy yourself and your new journey to a better you and your body will speak for itself.
Why should people enter the challenge?
The amount of information you are handed within the vault after signing up is next level, and won’t be accessible anywhere else for the amount you paying.
The support and motivation is phenomenal and this is from the same people you are challenging, which you would never expect or even get from any other challenges.
The spot prizes as an added bonus just for being a member and staying fit and healthy. Who gives us things just for staying fit and healthy, NO ONE. So if you ready for change and need a family that’s prepared to fight to keep you motivated and reward you for it then SLEEKGEEK is your new home.
