Today we chat to Elmien Myburgh who placed 1st in the Women’s Transformation Category of our Summer 2020 Sleekgeek 8-Week Transformation Challenge.

Give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.

I used to be quite active, but when I fell pregnant I gained quite a substantial amount of extra weight. I always thought that I would lose the extra weight quickly after my baby was born, but soon realized that motherhood takes up a LOT of time and energy. Throughout the next year and a half, I made various attempts to lose the weight, but could never commit fully for an extended amount of time.

What prompted you to join the Sleekgeek Transformation Challenge?

I was finally ready to commit fully to getting back to a healthy and active lifestyle. I was looking for a challenge I could commit myself to and came across the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge. It ticked all the boxes and I entered! It was the best decision of my life!

Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.

I received my custom nutrition plan as part of my challenge entry which I adapted to suit my lifestyle and needs. I cut out alcohol, which led me to binge eat in the past. Furthermore, I kept track of my calories on the MyFitnessPal app and increased my water intake substantially.

Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.

I followed the Intermediate Strength Training plan by Craig Brown of CSB Body Fusion, which I found on the Sleekgeek Challenge Vault. It consisted of an Upper/ Lower body split for strength training as well as optional cardio days. I enjoyed the fact that the plan gave an alternative option for each exercise. This enabled me to switch it up when I wanted, whilst still training the specified muscle group.

If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?

Focus on small positive changes. Small changes can lead to huge results if you implement them consistently.

Don’t throw in the towel when you have an off day. Tomorrow is a brand new opportunity.

Surround yourself with a great support structure. If you don’t have the support of your immediate friends and family, join support groups of like-minded people who motivate and support you.
