Health and fitness is a life-long endeavour where you always have your eyes on the horizon (your future goals).
Except, you must remember that the horizon is a place that you can NEVER reach.
As you move towards the horizon, you’ll pass milestones and landmarks, but it will be forever elusive. The more you move towards it, the more it moves away from you.
The same thing happens in health and fitness.
As we make progress towards our goals, we tend to move the goalposts further and further ahead.
What was once a challenge is now easy. What was once a goal is now our reality. What was once a huge achievement is no longer satisfying. So we look for new challenges, set new goals, and chase new achievements.
If you aren’t careful, you can get frustrated, and disillusioned with your journey.
Making progress without acknowledging and celebrating that progress is a recipe for disaster.
So maybe now is a good time to stop, rest for a moment, and look back to see how far you’ve come?
Unlike the horizon, the distance of progress you’ve made doesn’t stay the same. The further you travel, the more you have to look back on and admire.
Don’t measure your success by how close you are to your goals, but by how far you have progressed from where you started.
There WILL be days (sooner or later) where it feels like progress is slowing down and you aren’t where you want to be. You may even become sad or feel like giving up.
One quick look back and you will be completely re-inspired.
If you’re better than last year, last month, last week, or even yesterday… Then you’re on the right track! Hi-five!
Kind regards,
Eric.
