Someone asked us to explain more in-detail how the team scoring works and how we decide which team wins.
So we thought we would share that with you.
Rules updated May 2020
While we always give a brief explanation whenever we release the results, it might be more useful if we explained it fully.
We use a formula to rank all of the teams who submit based on:
- Average Weight Loss (total weight lost divided by number of team members who finish)
- Percentage Completion (percentage of team members who enter the challenge versus finish the challenge)
- Transformation Points (bonus points for team members who make it to the top 10 of the transformation categories)
We feel that this fairly balances both weight loss and transformation categories as well as rewards teams for higher completion rates.
Let’s look at AVERAGE WEIGHT LOSS first.
Like in our overall challenge results, we look for the top 5:
- The team with the highest average gets 5 points.
- The team with the 2nd highest average gets 4 points.
- The team with the 3rd highest average gets 3 points.
- The team with the 4th highest average gets 2 points.
- The team with the 5th highest average gets 1 point.
Now for COMPLETION PERCENTAGE.
- The team with the highest completion gets 5 points.
- The team with the 2nd highest completion gets 4 points.
- The team with the 3rd highest completion gets 3 points.
- The team with the 4th highest completion gets 2 points.
- The team with the 5th highest completion gets 1 point.
Then, the TRANSFORMATION POINTS.
Transformation Ranking (teams get ranked according to the number and rank of team members who make it to the top 10 of the transformation categories).
- The team with the highest rank gets 5 points.
- The team with the 2nd highest rank gets 4 points.
- The team with the 3rd highest rank gets 3 points.
- The team with the 4th highest rank gets 2 points.
- The team with the 5th highest rank gets 1 point.
Teams with no candidates placing in the top 10 of the Transformation Category get 0 points for this scoring category.
We then add all of these points up for each team to see which team has the most.
In the event of a tie for first place we use a secret tie-breaker which we share with an independent challenge judge before the competition.
That is how we do it!
While this is a competition, the end goal is to help people work together, have a great experience, and get life-changing results. So, thank you no matter where you and your team finish.
