❓ How to complete the mission
Starting your day with a deep breath and some moments to yourself is a simple habit that can set the tone for a productive day. This is an easy task and the benefits seem incomparable compared to its simplicity.
We seem to undervalue the importance of quiet time; instead we rush from meeting to meeting, this activity to the next. When last did you take the time to just be? No hurry and no deadline – a moment to just be with yourself? Some may find it a bit uncomfortable at first, solitude is not something that everyone is accustomed too. And we get that! But use this opportunity to get to know yourself better.
Solitude is the state of being alone without being lonely.
It is a time that can be used for reflection, inner searching or growth or enjoyment of some kind. Deep reading requires solitude, so does experiencing the beauty of nature. Thinking and creativity usually do too. This morning we ask you to get comfortable in your solitude so you can draw on it at other times.
Solitude gives us a chance to regain perspective. It renews us for the challenges of life. It allows us to get (back) into the position of driving our own lives, rather than having them run by schedules and demands from without.
🚶🏽♀️How?
Turn off your alarm, take a deep breath and be still. Connect with the sensations of your body. Wiggle your toes and fingers, and rotate your wrists and ankles.
- Take three long, deep, nourishing breaths. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Then let your breath settle into its own rhythm, as you simply follow it in and out, noticing the rise and fall of your chest and belly as you breathe.
- Set your intention for the day. For example, “Today, I will be kind to myself; be patient with others; give generously; stay grounded; persevere; have fun; eat well,” or anything else you feel is important.
- Throughout the day, check in with yourself. Pause, take a breath, and revisit your intention. Notice, as you become more and more conscious of your intentions for each day, how the quality of your communications, relationships, and mood shifts.
