❓ How to complete the mission

“The way you start your day powerfully shapes how productively you live it.”

Robin Sharma

This is when the first task that we assigned to you comes into play. On day one we asked you to get a good night’s sleep so you could be ready for the new day.

Remember that a successful morning begins the night before.

Ideally, over these past couple of days, you have been paying attention to how you have been feeling during the day and have adjusted your sleep schedule according to how you felt. So you should now have a pretty good idea of how much sleep you need and can plan to wake yourself up an hour earlier tomorrow.

“It is well to be up before daybreak, for such habits contribute to health, wealth, and wisdom.”

Aristotle

Speaking of health, according to research people who regularly wake up an hour earlier than usual, without sleeping less, may be able to reduce their risk of major depression. Those who rose one hour earlier in the morning compared with later risers had a 23% lower risk of depression.

🤓 How?

If you are a night owl, there are some ways to hack your body clock to make waking up a little bit easier on you.

  • Sunlight:

Pay attention to your exposure to light. Light is one of the main factors to pay attention to so it is important to keep your days bright and nights dark. It is also important to minimise the use of electronics before bed.

  • Exercise:

Exercising earlier also reinforces the signals that tell your body it’s time to wake up and go to bed plus people who exercise regularly report better quality than those who don’t.

  • Snacking

Try to avoid late-night snacking as this may cause digestive issues that may affect your sleep.

So now you are awake? What to do with this hour? Robin Sharma, in his best-selling book “The 5am Club” recommends his 20/20/20 formula. The first 20 minutes are dedicated to some form of movement or exercise. The second is to some form of meditation or reflection and the third is to mastery or learning.

You can either select tasks that you have completed already or create new ones to experiment with.

Let us know what you decided to gift yourself with this extra hour.
