STRESS MANAGEMENT HABIT

Joy List

What brings you joy?

WHAT:

This habit is about identifying and regularly engaging in activities that bring you joy and make you feel alive.

WHY:

Life can be hectic, and it’s easy to get caught up in daily routines and responsibilities, forgetting to make time for the things that genuinely bring us joy.

When we neglect our need for fun and enjoyment, it can impact our mental and emotional well-being.

Creating and using a Joy List can help you reconnect with the small (or big) things that light you up, offering a boost in mood, reducing stress, and increasing feelings of fulfilment.

Engaging in joyful activities can serve as a reminder that life is about more than just productivity—it’s also about enjoying the journey. It’s a simple yet powerful way to prioritize moments of happiness, even during busy or stressful times.

HOW:

  • Make Your Joy List: Set aside some time to write down a list of activities, experiences, or small pleasures that bring you joy. Think about things that make you smile, feel relaxed, or give you a sense of excitement. These could be as simple as reading a book, listening to your favourite music, walking in nature, having coffee with a friend, or dancing in your living room. Aim for at least 10-20 items to start.
  • Keep Your Joy List Visible: Place your list somewhere you’ll see it often, such as on your fridge, in your journal, or as a note on your phone.
  • Schedule Joyful Moments: Make a commitment to engage in at least one item from your Joy List each day, even if it’s just for 5-10 minutes. It could be as simple as taking a few moments to enjoy a sunset or watching a funny video. The goal is to make joy a regular part of your routine, not just something you save for weekends or special occasions.
  • Share the Joy: Consider inviting a friend or loved one to join you for an activity from your list, like a walk, a coffee date, or a game night. Sharing joyful moments can strengthen connections and create new, positive memories together.
  • Refresh Your List: Take a few minutes each month to review and refresh your Joy List, adding new items and removing those that don’t feel as meaningful anymore.
  • Notice the Impact: After engaging in an activity from your Joy List, take a moment to notice how you feel. Are you more relaxed, energised, or lighter? Recognizing the positive effects of these moments can encourage you to continue prioritising joy in your life.
