At Sleekgeek, we’re on a mission to transform the lives of 1 million people using the power of healthy habits and community support.
Our vision of the bright future that we’re working towards is for homes, schools, and workplaces to be healthy places that enable rather than disable vitality.
In a world where sick, tired, and unhealthy is quickly becoming the norm, we are fighting for a better future!
We’re declaring war on unhealthy living and calling on you to join us!
If we each take a few small daily actions to think, eat, move, and sleep better while helping or inspiring others to do the same, the ripple effect would be enormous!
Our vehicle for change in this healthy lifestyle revolution? HABITS!
Health is a Habit
When it comes to health and fitness, you’re in this for life, right? (We certainly hope so!)
This means that whatever you do needs to be do-able, repeatable, and sustainable.
Strict diets and rigid workout plans might be great for short-term change and temporary results, but they are almost always designed for “perfect conditions”. The times when life is going well, everything is on track, and you are motivated to put in the work.
But what happens when life gets “messy”? (As it always inevitably does!)
You know what we mean. When you are running low on sleep… When there aren’t enough hours in the day… When you get invited to dinner with the in-laws… When everything is just spinning out of control…
The perfect diet and most effective workout plan is completely useless if you can’t stick to it. With those kinds of “all-or-nothing” approaches, you’re either “on” or “off”, right? There is usually very little “in-between”.
You need a different approach. An “always something” approach.
At Sleekgeek, we believe that health is a habit.
We want to give you the knowledge and skills to build life-long healthy habits that you can rely on.
Adjustable strategies that can be used in any circumstance to allow you to stay on track and keep progressing towards your goals, no matter what. No more “falling off the wagon”.
When something becomes a habit, it’s easier and requires less effort to do, freeing you up to focus on other more important things in life. This is how we feel health and fitness should be. Do-able, repeatable, and sustainable. Done right, it should make your life better, not worse.
So, what’s in it for you?
By the end of this book, you’ll have a roadmap to build your own set of healthy habits that are as unique as you are. You’ll learn how to eat, move, think, and sleep better—all without feeling like you’re sacrificing your life for it.
Imagine a life where health and well-being are not chores but choices that come naturally. That’s the transformation we’re aiming for. Intrigued? Keep reading.
Why Habits Matter
You’ve probably heard the saying, “We are what we repeatedly do.” But have you ever stopped to think about the weight of that statement? Habits are the invisible architecture of our lives, shaping our actions, decisions, and ultimately, our outcomes.
But why are habits so powerful?
Well, our brains are wired for efficiency. Imagine having to think about every step while tying your shoelaces or brushing your teeth. Exhausting, right? Habits free up mental bandwidth, allowing our brains to focus on more complex tasks. They’re like your phone’s auto-correct—once set up, they operate in the background, making life smoother.
Small actions might seem insignificant, but they add up. Think of it as compound interest for your health. A 1% improvement every day can lead to significant changes over time. It’s not about overnight success; it’s about consistent, incremental progress.
The true beauty of habits is in their flexibility and adaptability. Unlike rigid plans that break at the first sign of disruption, habits are flexible. They can be scaled up or down to fit your lifestyle, making them sustainable in the long run.
Ultimately habits are the building blocks of a healthier, happier you.
Info from 8-Week Challenge
At Sleekgeek, we believe that health is a habit because you are what you 🔁 repeatedly do.
This is why we’ve included a Habit Library for you in the Sleekgeek 8-Week Challenge.
While having a set nutrition plan or exercise program can be useful, especially for short periods of time like in an 8-week challenge, it’s important to also work on building healthy habits for long-term success.
Healthy habits are the individual building blocks of a healthy lifestyle.
- They’re independent – just because you can’t do one healthy habit today (e.g. go to the gym) doesn’t mean you can’t do another healthy habit today (e.g. eat a healthy lunch). This makes it much easier to stay on track in the long run and not be “all-or-nothing” about your health and fitness.
- They’re flexible – you can choose and tailor them to fit your own unique lifestyle. For one person, a healthy habit might be doing 7 days of meal prep on a Sunday, while for another person it might just be cooking a bit extra for dinner so that they have leftovers for the next day. Or, for one person a healthy habit might be a gruelling 90-minute gym workout while for another it could be a gentle 20-minute walk.
- They’re scalable – you can make healthy habits easier or more difficult, requiring less or more effort, depending on how your life is going at the time. A great example is brushing your teeth: Some days you might have plenty of time and energy, so you brush your teeth thoroughly for a full 2 minutes, while on other days you do the bare minimum and give them a rushed 15-second sweep. Being able to scale your health and fitness efforts is key for long-term sustainability.
- They’re stackable – many healthy habits complement one another. When one healthy habit falls into place, it often sets off a chain reaction, just like a line of falling dominos. Someone who is chronically tired with no energy or motivation to exercise, and is constantly craving junk food all day might just need to prioritise their sleep over watching TV or scrolling on social media in the evenings. Getting better sleep could lead to more energy the next day, a better mood, less cravings, and better fuel for their workouts. This then becomes an awesome upward spiral where sleep, mindset, movement, and nutrition are all supporting and fueling one another.
- They foster a growth mindset – healthy habits are all about continuously looking for areas of improvement and finding ways to problem-solve any challenges that come your way. They encourage having a growth mindset rather than focusing on short-term fixes or seeing health and fitness as something you’re either doing or not doing.
The more healthy habits that you build into your everyday life, the easier this journey will be.
