FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions.

1) Do I have to pay for #21STRONG?

Sleekgeek’s #21STRONG is free.

We also recommend that you use the free app, HabitShare, to track your habits.

2) How do I choose my habits?

Browse through Sleekgeek’s #21STRONG Habit Library and select the habits that are most appealing to you.

The choice of habits is up to you.

If you think there are some habits missing that we should add then please let us know using the feedback form.

3) How many habits should I choose?

We recommend picking 4-8 habits to track every day for 21 days.

You can do less or even more, but we’ve found 4-8 are the sweet spot.

If in doubt, aim for quality over quantity. You can always come back for round 2 of #21STRONG with different habits.

4) How do I track my habits?

We’ve spent some time testing out a variety of habit-tracking apps and settled on a free one to recommend for this challenge called HabitShare.

It’s completely free with minimal fluff and features, but it does allow you to:

  • Add your own habit(s).
  • Set a frequency for a habit (daily, specific days, # per week, or # per month).
  • Set reminders to do a habit (you can have as many reminders as you want at any time on any day).
  • Add friends and choose if you want to share your habit progress with them for accountability.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to use an app, you can print out the Sleekgeek Habit Tracker or make your own.

5) How do I add my habits to the HabitShare app?

Once you have the HabitShare app downloaded and have created an account, you will need to manually add your habits.

Keep in mind that HabitShare is not Sleekgeek’s app, so it doesn’t come pre-populated with our habits, it’s just there to help facilitate habit tracking and sharing.

To add your habits to HabitShare by clicking on “Add” in the top right corner of the app.

Then you can add:

  • Habit Title
  • Description (Optional)
  • Frequency
  • Shared With
  • Reminders

Finally, click “Save” to save that habit in HabitShare.

6) Can I add my own habits to the HabitShare App?

Yes, you’re welcome to add your own habits to track as well.

We’re working on expanding our Habit Library, but also want to keep the habits relevant and useful to most people rather than adding more unique or obscure habits.

If you think there are some habits missing that we should add then please let us know using the feedback form.

7) How can I add notes to my habits?

When you add a habit, you can set a description for it. This is useful if you want to specify that your “Water” habit is to drink 2L or 2.5L, etc.

You can also go back and edit this description by clicking on the habit and then clicking “Edit” in the top right corner.

Furthermore, you can add a DAILY note to your habits by clicking on a specific day for a certain habit (e.g. Monday on your “Water” habit) from your home screen, then clicking the three “…” and then writing in the “Comments” field. This is handy if you want to keep track of your habit progress for that day (e.g. that you’ve drunken 1L of your 2.5L goal).

8) How do I add friends to the HabitShare app?

Once you have the HabitShare app downloaded and have created an account, you will need to manually add your friends (or they will need to add you).

Add your friends on HabitShare by clicking on “Friends” tab at the bottom of the app.

Then, click the icon in the top right corner that looks like a person with a + sign next to them.

Here you can either search for a friend via their email address, or you can add a friend from your contacts, via their QR code, or send them your own link to invite them to join you. If you want to add Sleekgeek as a friend, you can search for the email help@sleekgeek.co.za.

Once you add a friend you’ll be able to configure which habits you choose to share with them (be default no habits are shared).

9) How do I change the privacy of my habits in HabitShare?

Be default, your habits aren’t shared with anyone – they’re set to private.

When you add a new habit, you’ll be able to click on “Shared With” and select which friends you want to make the habit visible to.

If you’ve already added a habit and want to go back and change the privacy settings, you can click on the habit name from the “Habits” tab, click on “Edit” in the top right, click on “Shared With”, and then select which friends you’d like to make this habit visible to. You’ll need to do this with each habit that you have.

When you add a new friend, after they’re accepted your friend request, you’ll be able to go into your “Friends” tab, click on the friend’s name, click on the three “. . .” in the top right, click on “Habits shared with friend”, and enable which habits you’d like to make visible to them. You’ll need to do this with each friend individually.

Make sure that you add Sleekgeek on HabitShare by adding us on help@sleekgeek.co.za and sharing your habits with us! We’d love to see how you’re doing and it also helps us to see which habits are the most popular so that we can create more like that!

10) Which Habit Week Format option should I use?

In the HabitShare app you can configure your “Habit Week Format” to be either:

  • Last Seven Days
  • Current Week

Both are useful options, but we recommend using the “Current Week” option so that you can stay focused on 1 week at a time.

11) Which Week Start option should I use?

In the HabitShare app you can configure your “Week Start” to start on any of the days of the week.

By default the app sets your week start to a Sunday, but we recommend changing this to a Monday.

12) How does the habit tracking work?

The idea is to track your handful of chosen habits continuously for 21 days.

Even if you don’t manage to do a habit that day, mark it off as “Skip” (if not applicable to that day) or “Fail” (if it was applicable but you didn’t do it).

Acknowledging the bad days is just as important as acknowledging the good days.

Try to update your habits tracking status at least once a day.

13) Can I add or remove habits?

If you want to add or remove habits as the challenge goes along, feel free to do so.

We encourage you to try and stick it out for 21 days, but if you feel a habit is missing or not a good fit for you then adjust as needed.

Consider using the 1-in-1-out rule when adding new habits to keep things manageable.
