Sleekgeek College JHB – Brain chemistry talk- Galliards Fitness

Date: Saturday 7 September 2013

Venue:St Martin’s Church Hall, corner Eastwood and Cradock Ave, Dunkeld, Johannesburg

Time: TBA (2.5 hours)

Price: R250 per person

Level: Everyone

Minimum of 15 attendees required for workshop to go ahead

Success in exercise and healthy living is measured in years.  It is not about quick fix solutions or overnight transformations, it is a lifelong process of on-going change and commitment to an active lifestyle and healthy choices.  This may sound daunting, but the rewards are beyond measure!

The question arises:  How is it that some people (a relative minority) are able to make this commitment while others tend to fall off the wagon?  A large part of the puzzle is found in the brain chemistry.

  • Why do I start an exercise and eating plan, only to fall off the wagon three months down the road?

  • Why do I lose motivation?

  • Why does the thought of exercising make me anxious?

  • How should I structure my exercise and eating plan for me?

Brain Chemistry is a major determinant of behaviour, including our thoughts, emotions and actions.  Through targeted exercise, nutritional and lifestyle changes, we can bring our brain chemistry into balance, thereby exercising full control over our behaviour.

The talk will

  • Give you insight into your own brain chemistry (by means of a short 15 point questionnaire).
  • Give you insight into your own behaviour, (why you do, feel and think the way you do), and how exercise, diet and lifestyle changes can affect your behaviour.
  • Give you short term and long term strategies to maximise everyday performance.
  • Give you the tools to make long term compliance with exercise a reality!
  • A short exercise session will follow the talk.

Galliard’s Fitness Profile

Picture 2230Galliards Personal Fitness Trainers cc was established by Ashley and Adrian Galliard in March 2000.  Adrian and Ashley are both Wits graduates and highly reputable fitness professionals with many years’ experience in the industry and have a background in human movement science and personal training.  Galliards Personal Training boutique gym continues to run successfully, training a diverse client base from executives to sports men and women and anyone seeking to improve their performance and lifestyle.

From 2003 to 2008, the Galliard brothers owned Golden Eagles Sports and Fitness Academy based at the Johannian Club at St John’s College.   Here they focused on training young aspiring as well as professional athletes, like Poppy Mlambo, the South African 10000m women’s champion at the time, as well as a young Chris Froome, 2013 Tour de France winner, and many others. They also trained various sports teams, including many of the St John’s College teams, for example, the water polo first team, the first and second rugby sides and also the first and second hockey sides in what can be described as a golden era in Saint John’s College sport.

Some professional sports sides and individuals made use of the facility and services, including the SA Rugby Sevens side, the England International Rugby Union Side, the Western Force Super 15 Side,  Kepler Wessels, Nick Pothas and many others.  They have had a proud association with the highly successful Gauteng Touch Rugby team, for which they designed all the fitness and conditioning programmes.

Through their corporate wellness company Physicorp cc, they have run several company gyms, including Routledge Modise, Computershare, Department of Agriculture, GSSC, SITA and many more.  They consult from their Norwood based facility to a large number of private and corporate clients.  As the preferred provider of fitness services to HealthinSite, they continue to grow their influence within the corporate space, and offer education and motivational talks on how to personalise the exercise experience for maximum compliance and optimal performance.  Companies for whom they have given talks include

  • Nedbank
  • Computershare
  • Total
  • Sasol
  • Arcelormittal
  • SA Breweries
  • RSM Betty & Dickson, and others.

Their service offering is always cutting edge and at the forefront of technology, making use of innovative and interactive online coaching services, to maximise their reach within the corporate market.
