I heard about Sleekgeek SA from a guy at the gym and he told me about how awesome the motivational pictures and transformation photos are. I decided to join the page with intention of eventually being able to post my own transformation picture, which today (15 May 2015) I did 🙂
In April last year 2014 I decided that I really needed to make a lifestyle change. I was 21 years old, severely over weight and unhealthy. I decided that I would set the goal of running the two oceans half marathon this year 2015. I decided that I needed a serious change in my life and i soon realized that there is no quick fix to weigh loss, no -matter what anyone says. It takes hard work, discipline and a lot of determination.
I started off with a soup diet which I used to cleanse my system. I lost 5kgs in seven days. This was what kick started the whole process. I then finally started making use of my gym contract and ensured that I was in the gym every day, twice a day. I was lucky enough to have an amazing gym partner who was on the same mission as I was which made my life a lot easier. We fed off each other, motivating each other constantly, dragging the other out of bed on days where we were too sore or tired to even think about walking into the gym.
I also ensured that I cleaned up my diet. I did not make use of any fad diets but rather created one for myself which I knew I would be able to follow. I cut out all the rubbish such as fast foods, sweets, chocolates and chips. Every meal that I eat is a fully balanced meal which consists of vegetables, protein and carbs which I generally get from my vegetables. I absolutely fell in love with this lifestyle change when I started noticing the results.  In July 2014 four of us were trying to lose weight so we created our own biggest loser competition where we got together every Sunday and had a weigh – in. At these weigh-ins we would all pay R50 into the pot and the person who had lost the most amount of weight at the end of the 15 weeks would win all the money. I won the competition in the end as I had lost 11kgs in 3 months. Before I entered into this competition I had already lost 8 kgs so I had now lost 19 kgs in 6 months. I then carried on eating well, following my eating plan and carrying on with my exercise. However, from September onward I started using Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide which helped me lose the last few kgs and helped me tone up and gain some muscle.
This year started off with training for the two oceans half marathon which I completed in 2hours and 33 minutes. This was a goal that I set for myself and I made sure that I achieved it. My new Goal is to get my body fat down from 16% to 13% and I hope to achieve this goal by the end of August 2015. So watch this space:)
Right now I am living a life of maintenance as I do not want to lose anymore weight. my current weight is now 50 kgs as opposed to the 75kgs I weighed in April 2014. My body fat is down to 16% from 33%.  I am so unbelievably happy and I have never felt healthier and I am so happy that I woke up and realized how important healthy living is at the age of 21 and not in a later stage in my life.
