Choose your circle wisely.

My good friend and lifestyle motivator Brett Shuttleworth always says to me “you are who you have coffee with”.

When we advertise the Buddy Challenge in our 8 Week Transformation by saying “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with” – Jim Rohn .

It’s the same sentiment. It’s so true. The people you spend your time and energy with shape your world and reality.

They will make you or break you.

Think of the impact you having on other people in your life? Your partner, your kids. Is it a positive one? Are you increasing their chances of success.

I’m constantly surrounded by people who support my goals and dreams. I’ve engineered my life that way through the Sleekgeek community. Not by accident but on purpose.

But I realised that for many in the community this is not their reality which inspired this post.

You need to weed out the people who are not prepared to support you. You need to spend more time with the kinds of people who posses the qualities and attributes you want to become and aspire to. Those that will cheer you on and lift you up. Not put you down and suppress you.

They say relationships are for a season, a reason or a lifetime.

I’ve seen many stories in the community where people are ditched by their friends because they no longer want to get drunk all the time. Let these people go. They are not your friends if that’s the only bond which connects you. I’m sorry to say.


Someone who is trying to hold you back while you try move forward is not your friend.

Someone who tells you that you cannot do something is not your friend.

They do not love you.

This is where the power in the Sleekgeek community lies! Come to the monthly dinners. Go to regular events like parkruns. Connect with people online. There are a ton of people in your region who are on the same journey and equally keen to connect with like minded people. Make friends with them.

If you want to be healthy then hang out with healthy people. If you want to be fit then hang out with fit people.
