3 Ways You Might Be Sabotaging Your Journey

Nothing worth having is ever simple to reach, but sometimes the journey can feel long and never ending.

Here are 3 things that you could be doing that might be slowing you down that are relatively simple to change and will make things easier for you.

1) You are stressing too much:

For those of you who attended the March SG dinner, you would have heard Dr Grant Fourie talk about how weight-loss stalls when your sympathetic nervous system takes over and you are constantly in a fight or flight state of being. Your entire body goes into fat storing mode and this counts heavily against your weightloss efforts.

Our advice: Don’t sweat the small stuff, use positive thoughts about yourself and learn to really enjoy eating healthy and moving your body – you will see an upswing in progress.

2) TryingΒ to out-run your fork:

We have all done it: “oops I just had *insert cheat meal here* but it’s fine I’ll just run/swim/lift for an extra hour tomorrow then it cancels out”

No, it really doesn’t.

Our advice: Don’t do that. If you’re going to have a meal that isn’t on your plan, enjoy it, savour it even, but don’t make it a habit and don’t try and balance it out with an extra work out. Just put it behind you and make your next meal a healthy one.

3) You’re not putting in the prep time:

One of our mantras at HQ is “Fail to plan, plan to fail” and this is one of the golden rules of a successful health journey. If you’re not preparing your meals or planning your gym schedule it’s going to be way too easy to eat something you shouldn’t or give the gym a skip.

Our advice: Take time out of your day (it doesn’t have to be hours) and prepare enough food to get you through each day satisfied and on track. Plan your week by incorporating work, social time and your work outs and make that non negotiable. It gets easier with time, promise.
