In the last few weeks not one but 2 Sleekgeeks got “SG” tattooed on their arms.
That is pretty radical considering a tattoo is for life. At first I even thought they were a little nuts!
But is shows at the extreme how much SG means to some people in this community and the symbol it represents in their lives.
For a long time people have been using the hashtag #Sleekgeek4life and #SG4life in the Facebook group
My vision for SG is to create a strong network of people united by a common journey to bond together in real life as well as virtually 24/7.
My dream is that you will never have to eat or train alone again. That no person is left stranded without support or inspiration.
But the key in my message this week lies in the sentiment of “for life”. That is the crux of the matter. The pursuit of health is life-long. It does not end when you reach a goal weight or when you can fit into your skinny jeans.
That is the difference between short-term quick fix pursuits to scratch an itch and real commitment to a healthy life for you and your family.
I do believe that the only way to be dedicated to a life of health is to truly value your health. Health has to become one of your top priorities. Something you are not prepared to compromise on. Ever.
When this happens over a lifetime you will more consistently do the right things. And it will not be a struggle. It will not be an internal strife and emotional turmoil. It will just be something you do without having to even think about it. Second nature.
When you are in turmoil it is generally because your actions are going against your beliefs.
When you shift those beliefs and values everything will change.
I also think that you have less angst and fear once you have embraced this concept. For example if you have a wobble then it is ok because you are secure in the fact that you aim to pursue a life of health and you will not throw it all away and go back to how you used to live. I find when I slip up this reassuring internal belief gives me great strength to get back on the path. This way there can be no guilt either. But you have to be resolute in your goals and vision for your personal future.
Wake up each day and say in the mirror. “My name is XXXXX and I value my health”. Tell yourself that whenever you have a tough decision to make. Once you really start to believe it internally your journey will be more of a pleasure then a struggle.
If you are really struggling to make change in your life I have launched a new 12 week educational lifestyle mastery course in partnership with Dr Greg Venning. The course will among other things teach you how to master your mindset in relation to health. Check it out at www.sleekgeek.co.za/UYL
This journey for health is for life and SG will always be here for you.
The biggest favour you can do for yourself right now is to realize that health is not a sprint. It is a marathon and requires consistency. If your plan is to get healthy and one day return to your old habits it simply does not work like that.
It aint easy but it is worth it.
SO #SG4life Viva!
