I have always been a very firm believer in looking after your body, translating it in the following statement “what you put into your mouth shows on the outside”…so I have never been a fan of junk food and can’t actually remember if I ever had a hamburger or chips for that matter. I have never smoked, never taken alcohol and always taken care not to expose myself unnecessarily to the sun, always did my facial and body routines even if I was dead tired, never went to bed with make-up, I think you can call that crazy or maybe discipline!!!! Hehehe! I have trained since a very young age as I was in a boarding school and that was my favoured pass time! I mainly trained against the boys as I love the competition to see if I can perform against the stronger sex.
Even after I got married and had kids, I kept on training. Some interesting info for some pregnant women! I trained until my 8th month, had 3 Caesarean sections and started training as soon as I was mobile, meaning about 2 to 3 weeks afterwards. I believed in not picking up too much weight around 6 to 7kg max and getting your body back into the gym as soon as possible. Ps. I have 3 children, 2 girls and a boy of my own and 2 boys that is my husbands. I have been in the corporate world all my life but started my own marketing company in 2011 and loving it.
I have turned 52 in March 2014 and I’m now chasing 53. The best advice I can give any woman is to find love, which I did in my husband, Attie Herbst, he is the centre of my life and I hope to share my life with him until my last breath…Since his transformation, he has done an tremendous amount of research on food and nutrition and has taken over my nutritional needs as well as my training. I have just completed the RXIT Winter Series and came 3 worldwide and 2nd in Africa in my age group. With Attie at my side I believe I have a chance in my age group at the Crossfit games and has already started my preparation…
How do I feel today…wonderful and younger than ever!
My 5 tips for staying young:
- Healthy eating & drinking habits
- Lots of exercise (gym/ horseriding, biking, running anything to keep active)
- Good sleep patterns
- Disciplined beauty routines
- A loving support system like what I have with Attie
