SG Kids: Jess Young’s transformation gets 1000 likes

Ed Young posted about his daughter Jess and her incredible transformation since December 2013 to present and the post received over 1000 likes! We asked Jess’ mom Maritza to tell us about Jess and her journey so far:

Hi Sleeks,

Jess’ story is not a very long one…

Jess used to be quite slim (slightly overweight but nothing to be concerned about) but then in September 2012 she broke an arm and all her usual activities like Netball, ballet and tap dancing came to a grinding halt (doctors orders). This was hard on Jess as she enjoyed being active.

By the time the cast came off it was exams and all extra-curricular activities were finished for the year.

Ed and I had already decided to become healthy in September 2012 but Jess was not quite ready to change her ways yet… we were still cooking two different meals daily (except for the vegetables as lucky for us, Jess has always loved them!)

January 2013 school and activities started and things were going back to normal until May, when she broke her other arm. Again she wasn’t allowed to do any activities while her arm recovered so no Netball / Softball / Tap / Ballet. Not being able to participate was very difficult for Jess. It was only toward the end of the year when she could start playing softball again and in November 2013 she returned to ballet again.

Once again it was December holidays and all her usual school activities came to a halt.

During these holidays Jess wanted less and less of the “bad” foods and started eating more of the foods we eat.

The 2014 school year started and Jess was in full swing with her sports.

By March we began to see a major difference  with Jess’ weight loss and when we showed her the pictures, she was astonished and started pushing herself more in the right direction by eating the right kinds of foods.

On her own, she decided she would not add sugar to her tea / coffee anymore and first went over to Canderel for about a month. After that month she completely left the sugar as well as the Canderel.

Her transformation is amazing! We are so very proud of her. She decided all on her own to make the change to her own life! I can’t stress enough how important it is to lead by example. Your kids are watching you constantly and learning from you.
