How to live a brilliant life?

It is very simple. Life is about choices. Every day. Every choice. You are 100% in control and responsible for the aspects you can control.


 If you agree then the next question is – Are you making the choices that allow you to live a powerful, energized, sensational wonderful life? Does your body function the way it should? Do you feel amazing?

 Are you in control of your life?

 If the answer is yes then brilliant. Keep it up. Strive for even more greatness. There are no limits.

If the answer is no then why is that?

Do you believe you are not worth it?

If you think the answer is yes, then you are wrong. I am sorry. No more pity parties. No more self-loathing. No more hate. You are beautiful and amazing and full of potential. No matter what the voice in your head and others tell you.

Is it because maybe you feel that you do not have the ability to succeed and take control?

Nonsense! Look at all the examples of people in this community making better choices.

There are no valid excuses.

As you sit and read this right now you are largely the sum total of all the choices you have made for yourself up to this point.

The excellent news is that you can change, choice by choice you can improve your life.

I was in the airport business lounge on Wednesday at 5:30am waiting to fly to Johannesburg for the monthly Joburg Sleekgeek Dinner and was confronted with croissants, muffins, toast, cereals, jams and a range of other things I do not eat anymore. Of course I knew and anticipated this scenario. With my current mental space it was no problem.

While I sipped on my black rooibos I looked around and observed all the business travelers around me. Most looked unhealthy, stressed and half asleep. They looked like the old me. It was awesome to feel awake and energized without needing a shot of caffeine to wake me up.

It also reminded me why I created the Sleekgeek community. For YOU. So that you too have a shot at a brilliant life.

In my corporate career I commuted weekly for a few years. I looked over at the smoking area and remembered myself when I was a chain-smoker (30-40 a day) sitting in there almost weekly with my laptop, fired up on caffeine with some comforting muffins and packets of crisps. Probably a coke too – And it was all free! How lucky was I?

I thought I was living an optimal life and the dream – purely based on my corporate career and status.

While sitting there it became crystal clear to me that there is only one difference between then and now – a choice. A different choice.

I think we sometimes overcomplicate health far too much. Every choice you make every day can lead you closer to your goals or further away. Closer to living a brilliant, lucid, vital, optimized life or a mediocre, average one.

Just take it one choice at a time. It really is that simple.

When I stopped smoking it was the hardest thing I have had to do in my life and for the first 6 weeks I struggled and wanted to give in every day. But someone told me to just wake up in the morning and say “I will not smoke today”. That helped me a lot to take it one day at a time.

If you want to eat healthier then take it one meal at a time.

If you take control of your life you can start to live a life you never dreamed possible, one you might have thought you didn’t deserve. You deserve it and more, and now is the time to go for it.

Shift your headspace and make better choices.

At age 30 I was lethargic, tired, emotional, depressed, stressed, sexually disinterested and sad.

I turn 38 in July and have never felt younger, stronger, better and happier.

Sure, of course the idea of one of those croissants filled with jam and cheese was nice.

But the idea of living my best, most brilliant life is much nicer.

What do you choose?
