The 2nd Sleekgeek Challenge saw 56 competitors battle it for glory over the 12 week period. The Mother City dominated poll position with 3 out of 4 wins. In fact the winner of the 1st Sleekgeek challenge JP van der Spuy also hails from CT.

Jozi, Durbs and the rest of SA have their work cut out for them in the next challenge.

Overall there were some incredible results and lives were changed for many of the competitors who stuck to their guns.

The overall Challenge winner and winner of the “Men’s toning” category was Amien Phillips – a web designer from Cape Town.

The pics say it all ……an incredible transformation from tummy to abs… Well done sir!



Amien defeated 16 other gents to take his R8,000 prize money – but more than that –  he has earned himself the start of a healthy new life ….

You can read his transformation story by clicking here but in quick summary he came across an eating system called the “Zero Willpower Eating System” by Michael Chang which basically advised to prepare all your meals for the week on 1 day, stick them in tupperwares & freeze them.

For training he just decided to do the basics, push-ups + sit-ups on 1 day & pull-ups + dips the other day and alternate between these so that each muscle group would get a rest day.

He’d do these at night, about 5 sets until failure of each. He started off only being able to do 29 proper form push-ups and is now up to 75 with his goal being 100. Sit-ups/crunches also started at 30 & now up to 62. – who says you need to go to a gym and pump iron to transform your body??

Second overall and the winner of the “Men’s weight-loss” category was Mark Seabrook, Head of Digital at New Holland Publishing in Cape Town. Mark shed just under 15 massive kgs in his twelve weeks… an incredible effort!

In summary Mark did a Slow-Carb diet. The Slow-Carb diet in summary is about cutting out carbs and sugars and eating proteins, legumes and vegetables. It recommends having the same few meals over and over, avoiding drinking calories and taking one day off per week (this assists your metabolic rate). At first Mark did nottrain but at a later stage started to run. Read his transformation story here..


The ladies …..

Ladies toning was won by Lindi Ubsdell a recruitment consultant from Cape Town. She kept it simple with 6 small meals a day and trained for about 40 to 60 minutes a day, five to six times a week.

Lindy managed to sculp her body and stomach in a way that managed to beat out some stiff competition from some of the other ladies.

Ladies weight-loss

Cherylann Smith, Lead Digital Strategist at Mediacom,  nailed it! And here is her slimmer smilier face to prove it 😀

I would also be grinning from ear-to-ear after losing 15cm around my tummy! Fantastic achievement.

The category entries were split as follows into number of entrants- Ladies toning (10), Ladies weight loss (11), Men’s tone (16), Men’s weight loss (19)

There were many other achievers who will be mentioned in the coming weeks. In  the meantime check out Cameron Olivier who almost lost 15kgs and Shaun Labuschagne who torched the fat on his belly in men’s toning category.
