Breakfasts can be really difficult, especially if you are used to having the same old cereal or oats day in and day out – but now want to try something more healthy. Eggs are great, and probably one of the best breakfasts you can have to help set you up for a successful day, but it’s so easy to get bored and tired of them.
Not to worry, I’m here to help you add some more variety and joy back into your mornings.
Before we get started, a few important points:
- Never underestimate the power and convenience of left-overs. Whenever you are making lunch of dinner, ALWAYS think to yourself “Can I make more of this and eat it tomorrow morning for breakfast?”
- Breakfast should ideally be a high-protein and high-fat meal with minimal carbohydrates unless you have an extremely physically demanding job all day or you exercise in the morning. This will help prevent that dreaded 10am energy crash where you start snacking and then next thing you know you’ve eaten your lunch and it’s only 10:30am. Keep your carbs for later in the day and around your workouts. This doesn’t mean you can’t have any of these pancake, smoothie, or grain-free bread recipes occasionally – I just wouldn’t recommend making it a core staple.
- Most of these recipes are Paleo/Reboot-friendly and many are Banting-friendly. All recipes are gluten-free and dairy-free. However some include a little bit of honey or maple syrup, keep an eye out for that if that isn’t your thing.
- Pancakes, smoothies, breads, cakes – all fun and can be made using healthy ingredients. BUT it is in your best long-term interest to eat as much REAL, healthy food as possible rather than eating pseudo-treats all the time, trying to trick your body into eating healthier foods. Healthy treats are tools in your toolbox, they aren’t the entire toolbox alone.
